The studies I am best placed to help with are on complex questions, set in messy contexts and requiring creative study designs. Check the topics, methods and dissemination formats I work with.

I have over 16 years of experience as a social, behavioural and health sciences researcher (20 with my PhD), for longest at the University of Cambridge, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, where I am still a Visiting Fellow. My most recent longer-term consultancy projects were with the World Health Organization, in the Health Systems Resilience and Essential Public Health Functions team, and with Acas, the UK Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service.

I also consult on knowledge management within teams and organisations. My PhD was on methods of research synthesis. It explored the theories, methods and practicalities of combining dispersed, often disjointed and contradictory, sometimes rigorous and sometimes questionable, evidence into a big picture providing strategic direction while also guiding low-level actions.
